Brooklyn, Baby! Weekend - 8/9 Oct

Brooklyn is one of five New York boroughs, and is home to about 2.5 million people. Breuckelen, the old Dutch name for Brooklyn, was founded by the Dutch in 1646, on behalf of the Dutch West India Company. Throughout the centuries, the borough has attracted many immigrants, and it therefore has a very diverse ethnic composition... and that concludes our history lesson! Because above all, Brooklyn is very large and diverse, super hip, and bursting with creativity. Especially the neighborhood Williamsburg has attracted many creative people and visionaries, and it has developed into one of the hippest residential areas, with a bustling nightlife, in New York. Bagel shops, skateboarding, street art, flea markets, the best street musicians, factory buildings that have been turned into housing, working space and galleries...
It’s got it all!

During the ‘Brooklyn, Baby!’ weekend, we bring a small piece of Brooklyn to the Binckhorst. The film program consists of long & short films and documentaries relating to Brooklyn, a retrospective
about the work of famous Brooklyn film maker Spike Lee. We will also host a partner program together with the New York Rooftop Festival, Brooklyn Film Collective, Brooklyn International Film Festival and Pitchfork.tv. If you like hanging out in your car, then you can hang out on the BINK36 parking lot and check out a movie at the Shoot Me Drive-In. How much more American can you get, right?

Go and sleep in your own time! With the motto ‘No sleep till Brooklyn’ we will continue to party on Saturday night until the early hours of the morning. A black light set, live jazz and drum & bass by ‘The Big Machine’, Brooklyn Barrel Madness Skateboard Contest with Sweatshop Skatepark and live stream music performance of today’s Brooklyn hottest dj’s DJ Reborn & DJ1NEn2wo.
