First confirmations of Shoot Me Film Festival program

Van 8 t/m 17 oktober 2010 vindt de 6e editie van het Shoot Me Film Festival (SMFF) plaats in Den Haag. Onder het motto ‘Anywhere Cinema’ vertoont het SMFF internationale independent films in combinatie met live muziek op verrassende plekken door de hele stad.
De eerste namen zijn bekend: aandacht voor internationaal bekroond fotograaf en filmmaker Anton Corbijn, de Nederlandse première van Felix’s Machines uit Londen, Poolse film en animatie i.c.m. muziek van Chopin en een filmische ontmoeting met de Antillen.

Retrospectief Anton Corbijn
Fotograaf en filmmaker Anton Corbijn wordt geëerd met een bijzonder retrospectief met unieke hoogtepunten uit zijn werk. Corbijn fotografeerde internationale artiesten en regisseerde videoclips voor wereldberoemde artiesten zoals U2, Metallica, The Killers, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Coldplay en Johnny Cash. Voor zijn film Control, over de band Joy Division, won hij in 2007 maar liefst twee prijzen op het Festival van Cannes.

Performance van Felix’s Machines
Kunstenaar Feilx Thorn (EN) creëerde deze bijzondere machines in zijn slaapkamer. Ze transformeren ritmische audio structuren in een visuele 3D show. Felix’s Machines waren eerder te zien in Bordeaux, Londen, Berlijn, Parijs en tijdens TED Global 2009 in Oxford. Het Shoot Me Film Festival heeft i.s.m. TAG de Nederlandse primeur!

Foreign Ground: Polen en Antillen
Onder de noemer ‘Foreign Ground’ worden tijdens het SMFF jaarlijks actuele en mondiaal relevante thema’s aan de kaak gesteld. In 2010 is dat de veranderende samenleving door aanhoudende migratie. De focus ligt hierbij op Polen en de Antillen, twee landen die onlosmakelijk met Nederland verbonden zijn.

In een speciaal programma over Polen geeft het Shoot Me Film Festval een indruk van de hedendaagse ontwikkelingen op het gebied van Poolse film en animaties. Omdat 2010 ook het Chopin jaar is, wordt het programma aangevuld met muziek van Chopin uitgevoerd door live muzikanten.

Op 10-10-2010 vindt de officiële ontmanteling van de Antillen plaats. Op diezelfde dag staan de Antillen centraal tijdens het SMFF. Het programma staat in het teken van ontmoeting met de Antilliaanse cultuur; op de Antillen zelf en de cultuur zoals deze zich in Nederland heeft gemanifesteerd.

Shoot Me Film Festival
Het Shoot Me Film Festival vindt elk jaar in oktober plaats op diverse locaties in Den Haag. De internationale selectie van documentaires, speelfilms en experimentele films in combinatie met live muziek is uniek en veelal niet in de reguliere filmzalen te zien. Het SMFF krijgt structurele subsidie van de Gemeente Den Haag en werkt samen met dagblad NRC Next als mediapartner.

Kaartverkoop voor het Shoot Me Film Festival 2010 start half augustus via de website. Op vrijdag 20 augustus organiseert SMFF een gratis preview op de Grote Markt in Den Haag.

From 8-17 October 2010 the 6th edition of the Shoot Me Film Festival (SMFF) will be held in The Hague, the Netherlands. Under the motto ‘Anywhere Cinema’, SMFF shows international independent films in combination with live music at surprising locations throughout the city.
The first artists have now been confirmed, and deserving of special mention are the internationally awarded photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn, the Dutch première of Felix’s Machines from London, Polish film and animation with music from Chopin and a cinematographic encounter with the Antilles.

Retrospective Anton Corbijn
Photographer and filmmaker Anton Corbijn will be honored with a special retrospective with unique highlights of his work. Corbijn photographed international artists and directed music videos for world famous bands and artists such as U2, Metallica, The Killers, Joy Division, Depeche Mode, Coldplay and Johnny Cash. For his film Control, about the band Joy Division, he won no less than two awards at the Festival of Cannes in 2007.

Performance of Felix’s Machines
Artist Felix Thorn (EN) creates exceptional machines in his bedroom. They translate rhythmic audio structures into a three-dimensional visual show. Felix’s Machines were already displayed in Bordeaux, London, Berlin, Paris and at TED Global 2009 in Oxford. The Shoot Me Film Festival has the Dutch première in collaboration with TAG!

Foreign Ground: Poland and the Antilles
With ‘Foreign Ground’ the SMFF pays attention to relevant topical and global themes every year. In 2010, the theme is the changing society because of ongoing migration. The focus is on Poland and the Antilles, two countries that are inextricably linked to the Netherlands.

In a special program about Poland, the Shoot Me Film Festival gives an impression of the current developments in Polish film and animations. Because 2010 is also the ‘Chopin year’, the program will feature music from Chopin played by live musicians.

On 10-10-2010 the Netherlands Antilles will be officially dissolved as a political entity. On that same day the Antilles will be the main theme at the SMFF. The program focuses on the encounter with the Antillean culture; both on the Antilles and the way that its culture manifests itself in the Netherlands.

Shoot Me Film Festival
The Shoot Me Film Festival takes place annually in October, at various locations in The Hague, the Netherlands. The international selection of documentaries, movies and experimental films in combination with live music is unique. The SMFF is supported by the City of The Hague and cooperates with newspaper NRC Next as media partner.

Ticket sale for the Shoot Me Film Festival 2010 starts in mid-August, through the website. On Friday the 20th of August SMFF organizes a free preview on the Grote Markt in The Hague.
